How Can A Copper IUD Be Located After Insertion?

I had a copper iud inserted three days ago. So far I have had some cramping and spotting but it seems to be getting less. However, when I checked for the strings today they were noticbly shorter than they were yesterday- to the point where I had difficulty locating them today (I can just about feel the tips of them). So, I m just wondering if this is any cause for concern? Or if there is any advice that may be useful to me at this point? Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You need to check IUD once in every month for proper position. It's usually fine if you can feel the tip of your strings in the vagina. If you have doubt regarding our placement or position consult your doctor who will re-examine the position of IUD.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
