How Can A Dislocated Knee Cap Be Treated?

Six months ago I fell on my right knee. It was not painful and did not swell. However my kneecap now seems to occasionally shift to the right side and I feel that if I made the wrong move it could result in a serious injury. I have not mentioned this to my doctor. Any suggestions?
