Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have taken rabipur vaccine with 5 doses on Jan 2014 and taking booster dose of 1 injenction every year i.e., 2015 Jan 2016 Jan and 2017 Jan . Now Ihad a dog bite one week ago. doctor says there is no need to take booster dose also. Is it correct or not
Thanks for putting your query over here. In your case, even if you had a full vaccination course in the past, you need to be given 2 doses of Rabipurvaccine now on day 0 and day 3.Most important part is local wound treatment. Secondly, would like to know how is the dog?Whether the dog bite was provoked or unprovoked?Does the dog seems ill? If dog is observable, observe the dog for next 7 days since bite if it stays healthy or becomes ill. You will need to take the full 5 dose course again in case if you are on anti malarial, corticosteroids, immunosuppressive state or if you are an chronic alcohol drinker. May I ask what your occupation is to rule out repeated occupational exposure . Thanks and regards.
