Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My dog accidentally broke skin, we recently got him and we are unsure if he s had rabies shots. He doesn t show signs of rabies and is generally healthy. He s 9 years old. I immediately cleaned the wound with alcohol pads and peroxide and applied anticeptic cream and covered with a clean bandage. I went to the emergency room where they further cleaned the wound. Am I at risk for rabies?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You need to take rabies vaccine immediately even though the dog does not have rabies. Secondly, you have to observe the behavior of the dog atleast fir 2 weeks. In your case risk of getting caught by rabies is very less.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
