How Can A Dog Bite Be Treated?

Hi my two month old puppy has bitten my foot playfully and left a little tooth scratch. It was pink and very subtle that you won’t see if you look closely. I’m just worried because my puppy hasn’t been vaccinated yet. Do I need to go to the hospital?

Hello,

Yes, you need to go to hospital to get the vaccination if your puppy is adopted from the street dogs.

Puppies that are obtained from reliable dog breeders where bitches are vaccinated against rabies get maternal antibodies against rabies for 3 months to protect them from rabies.

Since, your puppy is two months old and its source is not mentioned and if not yet vaccinated against rabies, so you need to take one dose of vaccine on days 0, 3, 7, 14 and 28.

In addition, your puppy should also be given the first vaccination at 2 months of age, 9 months, and yearly boosters).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
