How Can A Dog Bite Be Treated?

i was bit in the hand by my dog 3 days ago. The hand still has some swelling , but what concerns me is the puncture spot is now growing a red ring around the puncture spot . I washed the wound site and have had neosporin on it. Shall I continue on the same path ?

Hello,

You have managed the wound that is good but it does not end there. As per your history, you need to do the following measures.
1. Your wound seems to show the signs of infection, for that you need to take antibiotics if you would have been my patient, I would have recommended the antibiotics doxycycline twice daily.
2. Another most important thing is you need to take the anti-rabies vaccination with immediate effect. You know dog bite can be dangerous to a human if the treatment is not followed properly. For that visit a medical professional and get the vaccination done if you had an open wound because of a dog bite.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muzaffer Hussain Parray
