Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was bit on my arm by a dog about a month ago ..it did not puncture my skin just left a nasty bruise the bruise is all gone but im left with a lump that hasn t went away...it s the size of maybe a quarter...I had some swelling right after the bite but that has went all the way down and just leaving me with this lump... I was also out on antibiotics for 10 days...is this lump normal and still a healing process.?
The lump may indicate some form of haematoma 9local blood collection) caused due to trauma (dog bite). If I were your treating doctor,I would advise you, -If it is painful, you can have analgesics like acetaminophen or ibuprofen twice a day for 3-5 days. -Local ice pack application for 15-30 minutes 3-4 times a day for 2 days. -If the swelling persists despite this, you may need to consult general surgeon for proper local examination to assess the diagnosis.May require minor surgical procedure for a swelling not responding to conservative measures. -If you have not taken Tetanus toxoid booster in last 5 years, you will require one now along with a course of Rabipur vaccination course.
Hope I answered your query. Feel free to ask any more doubt.
