I was diagnosed with rectal cancer 15 months ago and underwent six weeks of radiation with chemo; however, after the third week of treatment, I fell and broke my hip, but was able to continue the radiation to the end without too many days of interruption. Since that time, I had six months of chemo, with an additional diagnosis of right breast cancer which was surgically removed in October of this year. I had a CT Scan a few weeks ago which showed no cancer and had a colonoscopy two days ago which showed the possibility of no cancer. However, the gastroenterologist thinks that I absolutely need surgery to remove the damaged portion of my colon which is approximately nine inches into the rectum. What are my chances of having this surgery and not having to have a bag, even for a short period of time. I am seeing a surgeon on Friday, but I sure would like a second opinion.
