Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking Lialda 4.8 mg daily. What tests are needed to determine if there is any problem with the kidney? What percent of patients who take Lialda for UC experience renal damage? Does Lialda ever cause nose bleeds? I have had two in the past week, with quite a bit of bleeding. I was able to stop the bleeding, by pinching the nostrils for 10 minutes, and the second time was more prepared and used Afrin nasal spray on q-tip. Thank you very much for your help.
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
First, nose bleeds are not common side effects of Lialda, however, if if this occurs, it should be self limiting and there is no need to worry about this. Kidneys damage due to Lialda intake is also rare but more serious side effect and usually seen after ling term intake. If there are some dooubts about kidneys damage or symptoms then the best way would be to do creatinin and urea and basic urine analysis. This will show us if there is some problem . More specific tests such as urinoculture and kidneys ultrasound may be required if these previous tests are pathological. Till that you should not discontinue Lialda and nose bleed treat as you did by now.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
