Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A week ago my husband injured his knee while working on our grandson s treehouse. He described it as having twisted his knee although he doesn t remember actually hurting it at any moment. It is very painful when moving, isn t able to walk without limping, and it is swollen, especially the more he is on it. Should he apply heat or ice? wrap it? He takes an occasional aspirin and has been applying ice and heat intermittently. What kind of doctor should he see?
The most important thing he should do is to rest the affected limb, minimize ambulation to aggravate the injury. An X Ray and CT Scan will diagnose if there is any bone injury or meniscal or ligament injury. He should consult an Orthopedic surgeon who would advise the investigations, and advise him on the management as per the findings on the xray and ct scan.
