Hello,
A lump of the
thyroid gland is not always cancer. But it needs to be examined, investigated &
biopsy is done to rule out any malignancy.
Investigations include blood tests, T3, T4 TSH, fine needle aspiration cytology, thyroid USG & scan.
Early signs of cancer are a fast-growing lump, swelling & pain throat, difficulty in swallowing, trouble swallowing & breathing. If you do not have these symptoms then you need not worry but get assessed & treated at the earliest.
Cancerous lumps will be treated by
chemotherapy & the non-cancerous thyroid lumps are not serious & have little or no symptoms.
Treatment will depend upon the severity of the pathology detected. If the nodule has fluid-filled then it can be drained by
fine-needle aspiration. Treatment will be either done by
radioactive iodine or surgery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
