How Can A Painful Ankle Lump With Swelling, Foot Bruising Be Treated?

About 10 day ago I slipped and banged my leg on a metal stool bar, about 5 inches above my ankle and to the outside of the bone. It formed a half tennis ball size lump which I promptly iced for several hours with leg elevated. The lump diminished but is still maybe 2 inches in diameter and slightly raised, but quite painful when I put weight on the leg. My bottom side of my foot shows bruising. I decided to go for a brisk walk for some exercise two days ago after which my leg and ankle swelled and really hurt. I am now trying to keep off the leg as much as possible and elevate it. What can I do to help this heal, and how long could this take to heal (I have a ski trip planned in mid March). I am a 58 year old male.
