How Can A Painful Haematoma On Head Be Treated?

Hi. On 6/5 my husband fell off a ladder into a stone surface. He got 25 staples in his head. He also has developed a rather large hemotoma on his upper thigh. He is also on coumdin for a valve replacement. How do we know if he should see a doctor for this painful hematoma. He apples ice and heat in the evening after work. thank you Sharon

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The hematoma on the head following fall off a ladder is specifically significant in the person with a daily intake of coumadin tablet (platelet modulator).

* Need immediate physician consultation to be evaluated for bleeding, clotting and prothrombin time considering stoppage of coumarin tablet further doses, the introduction of trenaxamic acid, ethamsylate as well as cauterization of bleeder in certain cases as well where there is rapidly expanding hematoma not responding to medications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
