How Can A Penile Infection Be Treated?

Hey there, I have an infection on my penis and it s getting worse and worse, iv e tried seeing my gp but they did all tests and swabs and couldn t find anything wrong with it. It really hurts when I go to the toilet and i m just unsure what to do because I don t want it getting worse and being permanent. Would you recommend me going to hospital and telling them about it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
As you have got long standing and worsening penile infection, the first thing I would recommend you is to visit urologist.
Penile infection can be due to candidiasis or other sexually transmitted disease.
Clinical examination by expert, urinanalysis, discharge cultures, blood glucose test for diabetes may be necessary.
Treatment may call for oral antifungals or oral antibiotics depending upon the causative organism.
For candidiasis, oral fluconazole /ketoconazole for 10-14 days where as in other infections ,oral cipro /azithromycin /sulfamethaxazole as well as local hydrocortisone ointment may be given.
Refraining from sexual activitiies till treatment is completed and using condom in future during sex is recommended.
Simultaneous treatment of partner is necessary.
Maintain genital hygiene especially wash under foreskin with soap and water.
Thanks.
