Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello: I have been diagnosed with a pituitary tumer and have taken bromcriptine for the past 30 years. The past few years I have had E/D problems. I have tried a number of over the counter medications as well testosteren with no results!!! Is excess prolactin a factor !!!
The resulting decrease in serum T is believed to be the cause of the erectile dysfunction, although there may be an end-organ effect of prolactin on the penis.
Surprisingly, not everyone with hyperprolactinemia has a low serum T level or complains of erectile dysfunction. However, when the serum prolactin is corrected in patients with an elevated prolactin level and a low serum T level, the serum T level usually returns to a normal value, and erectile function is usually restored (if erectile dysfunction was present).
Simply treating the patient with exogenous T does not usually correct the erectile dysfunction (unless the prolactin levels are returned to normal).
I think I answered to your question if you have more questions feel free to ask.
Take care

How Can A Pituitary Tumor Be Treated?
Hello Thank you for trusting HCM Dear hyperprolactinemia induces hypogonadism by interfering with the secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus.
