How Can A Sexually Transmitted Disease Be Prevented?

Hello Dr. I had a condom break during sex yesterday and i started ampicillin and cloxacillin dose yesterday. In the last 12 hour i have taken 1500mg. Do i need to take further drugs to prevent any form of STD/STI? Can the ampicillin and cloxacillin prevent my partner from getting pregnant also? What other medication can i take to prevent STI/STD?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

No, ampicillin and cloxacillin will not prevent your partner from getting pregnant. Ask her to take an i-pill within 72 hrs of exposure.
You continue the antibiotics. Add Doxy. Use good quality condoms henceforth.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
