How Can A Sprained Wrist Be Treated?

I am certain I have a sprained wrist, I am just not sure what grade. I think It s a grade 2, by the reading I ve done. I fell at work and put my hand out to break my fall. At first I could barely lift anything, or even put on my shoes without severe pain. This was about 3 weeks ago. Now I can do just about anything, but still experience pain. I know you cannot diagnose me, but do you think I have a grade 3 and may need surgery? My wrist never swelled up or bruised, just hurt. Your thoughts?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

No, you may not need surgery, however you will have to rest the hand till complete healing of the ligaments and tendons, which may take 2 to 3 weeks more. The fact that you are experiencing discomfort while using the hand suggests that the soft tissues have not completely healed.

Thank You!
