Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I recently have had 6 stitches that got infected, The stitches were put in on the 12th aug and removed around 14days later due to the infection I ve since then been on antibiotics (flucloxacillin 500mg caps) 1 tablet 4 times a day and it seems like it s not getting any better, it doesn t seem worse either though. My doctor confirmed it was a staph infection and that I should just keep it covered and continue with the antibiotics until it s healed, when its covered it weeps though and seems to look a lot worse and I feel as though it s making it harder to for the healing process to begin, when I leave it uncovered it drys up and seems to start forming a scab. I m wondering what else I can do to hurry the healing process and rid of the infection. And if putting otocomb otic ointment will help?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Get a pus culture and sensitivity from the wound site to chose the best antibiotics. Continue antibiotics and daily wound dressings and it will heal by daily wound care. Make sure that tour blood sugar level is well controlled as uncontrolled diabetes can delay the wound healing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
