How Can A Surgical Wound Infection While Suffering From Diabetes Be Treated?

Hi My father is 67 yrs old , underwent achilles tendon repair last Oct 2016. Open surgery was performed with 8 weeks of cast. He is diabetic ( fasting range 110 to 125 , post range 150-170) since 2-3 years now. His surgery incision by Feb was 98% healed. There is this small hole still open and every day oozes clear fluid ( only 2-4 drops) after 10-15 mins of daily walk routine. Culture test of fluid was done, and is put on antibiotics (ceomox 625) since last 2 months. The small hole still oozes fluid . Can you suggest if this could be something else other than infection or related to inner area of tendon?

Hi,

It is most probably an infection. We can culture the fluid again to confirm that. Is the diabetes under control? if it is we can try to, resuture it.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshita, Ophthalmologist
