Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi there, I had a throats infection 1 month ago and it went away after 2 painful weeks. I didn t take any medication. However it now appears to be back. My phlegm is green and my ears are very sore. Can I take Metrogyl 400? As I had this from about 6 months ago. Thank you
Your symptoms are suggestive of bacterial upper respiratory infection with concomitant otitis. ENT examination, throat swab and culture is needed at this point to confirm the diagnosis. Metrogyl is not an effective antibiotic for such infection.
Amoxicillin is an effective choice, for which you need to follow up with your primary provider to receive a prescription. You can do warm saline gargle and take Tylenol for pain/fever.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal,
