Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been prescribed UTA capsules in the past for bladder pressure, discomfort (not pain, but just a feeling of pressure) and frequent urination --- now I ve been switched to Uribel (I believe the same drug). But both state in their on-line descriptions that though they are antibiotics, they shouldn t be used to treat urinary tract infections! I m confused. I ve submitted a urinalysis to determine if there is an infection but won t know that until next Tues 5/30. Should I take Uribel now to relieve the above symptoms?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Urinary tract infection needs to be first confirmed by means of urine routine examination followed by urine culture and sensitivity test. Based on the nature of organism causing infection and its sensitivity pattern to antibiotics, appropriate course of antibiotics will be prescribed. Uribel is a prescription medicine used to relieve the discomfort, pain, frequent urge to urinate, and cramps/spasms of the urinary tract caused by a urinary tract infection. Hence, you can take this medication until you get your urine analysis report. Kindly consult Urologist with the report for clinical evaluation and appropriate management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
