How Can A Urinary Tract Infection Be Treated?

I just took amox-clav 875 125mg 1 tablet 2x daily on 7/30/17. I used it because I thought I had a urinary tract infection. But I now have a urinary track infection like for 4 days. I have been drinking cranberry juice that has helped with the wanting to pee and pain. But my urine is still cloudy. What to do? Should I or can I still take the above Amox-clav? Can not go to a Dr. until another 3-4 days.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Amoxclav is not that much effective for urinary tract infection. Do a urine culture and sensitivity to find out the exact organism causing the infection and to chose the best antibiotic. As of now start on Ciprofloxacin empirically and you can change when culture report arrives. Drink plenty of water to flush of the pathogens from the system.

Hope I have answered your query. Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
