How Can A Wasp Bite On The Finger Be Treated?

OK so I was bitten outside my front door about a week to two weeks ago by some bug that I did not see because I freaked like a little girl as soon as I felt something on my finger. Needless to say I was bitten. I assumed bee or wasp because it stung like no other. It burned for a while maybe hour or so. It was swollen for the night. The next morning swelling went down. Well the last few days it has been itching like crazy. Now my ring finger is twice the normal size. I do not see a stinger anywhere. You cant really see the spot unless you know it is there but there is a solid knot under my skin where I was bitten. I cannot afford the dr and am really looking for a possible solution without missing work or going to dr.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Allergy to insect stings can cause severe reactions. It can manifest locally as well as systemically.
The following needs to be done to prevent or overcome such reactions from happening:
1. Remove any stingers immediately.
2. Apply ice pack with ice cubes wrapped in a towel or polythene cover for 20 minutes once every hour or as needed.
3. Take an antihistamine such as Tablet.Loratadine, which will help to counter itching and swelling.
4. Take analgesic medication Tablet. Ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain relief as necessary.
5. Wash the sting site with soap and water. After drying apply Neomycin with Hydrocortisone cream on the sting and adjacent site to get relief from redness, itching and swelling.
6. If it has been more than 10 years since your last tetanus booster, get a booster within the next few days.
Most insect stings do not require any other additional medical care. Keep the wound clean by proper local wound care and allow it to heal naturally.
If you experience any symptoms such as severe itching all over the body, swelling of face, giddiness or vomiting, you need to seek medical attention promptly.
Hope the information provided helps.
Regards,
