Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
cut top of left finger knuckle a several months ago. It healed and now there is a raised bum on knuckle and it hurts and I can t put on my wedding band. I can take it down quite a bit with an emery board. Looks almost like a wart. Efudex nor compound W produced results.
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. It looks like a hypertrophied scar or a keloid scar which is caused by excess collagen laid down at the site of injury. Use of emery board or wart removal measures at home should be avoided for it can cause infections and some wart removal ointments can cause extensive tissue damage.
In my opinion you should see a GP as you mentioned the swelling hurts it need to be examined and treatment choices will include injection of corticosteroid in scar, laser or cryo therapy or surgical excision.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ayesha Shareef,
General & Family Physician
