How Can Abdominal Pain Due To A Hiatal Hernia Be Treated?

I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. I was surprised as I had never had heartburn or acid reflux until about a week after I was diagnosed. I have a lot of pain in my stomach that keeps me lying down a lot. It interferes with activities I need to do. It is very painful. Doctor says my emotional health is the cause. I suffer from anxiety, depression and rage issues. Do you agree with that and is there anything I can do for the pain. I can not take pain pills.

Hello,

Yes, hiatus hernia is related to stress but if it is anatomically detected in endoscopy and if it is big it needs repair, might be yours is a minor one. Usually, reflux has to be prevented with few maneuvers.

Kindly sleep in head elevation position 30 degrees only from now on because in supine position reflux is more. Eat small frequent meals for 6 to 8 times per day to stop the reflux. Do not eat anything after 8 pm and do not sleep before 2 hours of food intake.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
