Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
An eosinophil is a type of
white blood cell. An absolute
eosinophil count (AEC) is a type of blood test that measures the quantity of eosinophils in your body. A normal blood sample reading should show less than 350 eosinophil cells/microliter of blood.
Eosinophils become active and increase in number when you have certain allergic diseases, infections and other associated medical conditions.
This test may help diagnose:
1. An
allergic reaction.
2. Early stages of Cushing's disease.
3. Parasitic infestations.
If you have an allergy or
parasitic infection, your doctor will prescribe a short-term treatment with anti-allergic medications to alleviate symptoms and your eosinophil cell count will revert to normal.
If your eosinophil count indicates an
autoimmune disease, your doctor may suggest to undertake more tests to determine which type of diseases you have. You may then need to be prescribed corticosteroids.
Kindly do the necessary follow-up with your doctor.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
