How Can Acid Reflux And Nausea Be Treated?

I ve gotten heart burn for a few years, it was always very mild and very rare, but in the last w/o months it has spiked dramatically, to the point I get it at least 3 to 4 times a week. It hurts, makes me nauseous, it sometimes gets hard to swallow, makes me feel like I m going to vomit, and sometimes feels like something is stuck in my throat. What could be causing this?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The gastric acid is regurgitating into your lower part of the esophagus. This is leading to both gastritis and esophagitis. It is this inflammation that is causing your symptoms of nausea, vomiting, difficulty in swallowing, feeling of something stuck in the throat.

Please do not take spicy food, and alcohol. These can increase gastric acid secretion and aggravate symptoms. Also please do not go empty stomach for over 6 to 8 hours. Please do not lie down at least for one hour after taking food.

You must consult a Gastroenterologist who can do an upper GI Endoscopy, see the situation and prescribe medications accordingly. Also, he can check for any dysplastic mucosal changes and take a biopsy if required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma
