Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My grandson who is 10 has been taking Prilosec for almost two years because of his acid reflux\ and stomach discomfort. His Dr. now wants to quit it because of the possible side effects. He really needs some type of medication to help with his stomach issues. What would you suggest we do? He gets along fine with the Prilosec and seems to have no side effects but it is the long term issues his Dr is concerned about. Larry Carlson
For acid reflux, rule out any underlying cause if present. For example, Hiatus hernia can be ruled out. For that, endoscopy or x-ray can be done.
Lifestyle modification will be beneficial for that. Go to bed for sleep two hours after meals. Avoid high fatty foods especially, at night and consult the gastroenterologist for examination.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Parth Goswami
