Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had a successful Pulmonary Vein Isolation Cold Catheter Ablation procedure about a month ago to treat atrial fibrillation and immediately began experiencing severe heartburn. I tried stopping all medications to look for improvement but the heartburn persisted. How did this occur, how should it be treated and will it go away on its own? I haven t found anything other than Zantac that will help ease the pain. My Grasto Dr. prescribed omeprazole and I ve been taking Nexium for years, but they are useless to stop this kind of heartburn.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It's important to follow healthy eating habits to avoid heartburn. For example, avoid smoking, fatty meals, large meals and eating before sleep. Medications play an important rule for treatment of this symptom such as Anti-histamine , proton pump inhibitors and antacids.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Abed Tahrawi
