Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have acid reflux and have been on Prevacid 30 mg/day for 20 years. Each time I try to get off of it I get a sore throat and other symptoms. A friend told me that green vegetable powder if taken daily can cure acid reflux. Is that true? Should I taper the Prevacid and try or just go off it and try?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Prevacid contains 'lansoprazole', which belongs to a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. It decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is used to treat and prevent stomach and intestinal ulcers as well as erosive esophagitis. Hence its intake will not cause acid reflux as side effect. Probably, its intake is not sufficient enough to control the acid production in your stomach. In such an instance, you can take sucralfate medication along with it. Wait at least 30 minutes after taking Prevacid before you take sucralfate. Eat less spicy and less oily food. Kindly consult your Physician for proper dosage of the medication. Hope the information provided helps. Wish you good health. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
