My 6 year old son had his adenoids removed Thursday morning did fine that day. Friday night ran a fever of 102.8 we went to ER the face him oral antibiotics he has now had 4doses of antibiotic and is running a temp still of right around 100-101 even with Tylenol every 4 hours. He is not eating, drinking very little cuz he says it burns, and has some up several time in the night crying from a headache how long should this go on before antibiotic is helping?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Generally we wait for 72 hours for antibiotics to work. So you can wait a little more. Try to give him cold fluids and ice creams. Till then you can continue with Tylenol. You can also give Brufen 3 times for few days. If fever does not settle in 72 hours, or he is vomiting a lot, then you should take him to the ER but I hopes this would not be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
