Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
what are best meds for 17 yo who has maxed out on Vyvanse at 70mg but remains very hyper and inattentive and grades are falling rapidly due to this problem? Physician says she can t go any higher than the 70mg but child has been at this dose for three years and it simply doesn t work
Your son has reached the maximum dose of vyvanse and his body has developed tolerance, where it needs a higher dose of vyvanse to be responsive.
Alternatives abound and should be evaluated and prescribed by your son's doctor. These include strattera (which is a non-stimulant drug used for ADHD treatment), Concerta, adderall, and ritalin. These are very potent drugs for treating ADHD.
Additionally, drugs are best combined with psychotherapy for treatment of adult ADHD. Psychotherapy would help with behavioral techniques to deal with the symptoms. So, you should schedule an appointment with a clinical psychologist.
I hope i have answered your question.
Please reach me if you have got more questions and i would gladly reply.
Warm regards.
