How Can Aggressive Behaviour In Old Age Be Managed?
My 67 year old brother, a Vietnam vet with Agent Orange exposure was diagnosed with FTD and PPA approximately 3 years ago. He continues to steadily decline. Incontinent. Combative. Completely non verbal. Other underlying health issues. Heart disease, diabetes, prostate cancer. Nursing home dr is pushing for geriatric psych and mental health exams for aggressive behavior, etc. Is all this necessary or even recommended due to the fact that this a progressive disease with no happy ending. I want him to be comfortable. Not subjected to things that will agitate him further.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Aggressive behavior is common in dementia and frontotemporal dementia, it is more common. Delirium and psychosis treated with sedatives with behavioral therapy and psychological, emotional support may help. Please consult your neuro physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
