How Can Allergic Itching On The Body Be Treated?

Hi....I contacted Poison Oak last Thursday, 5 days ago. I have been using topical solutions: calamine plus, Tecnu Calagel, Zanfel and taking 6 Benadryl liquid capsules since Sunday. Still itching like crazy. Tried Oatmeal Bath in Luke warm water, ok for a few hours now suffering again. I can fill my Prednosone Prescription but I usually don t take meds because of their side effects. I am 75 . Question: when will my case peak and do you have any other suggestions ? Thanks so much. Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, you need to get it reviewed by a dermatologist as itching or pruritus can be due to many causes, and taking antihistamines can temporarily stop the itching but cause needs to be worked up.

Ranging from infections like scabies which needs to be treated with Permethrin to metabolic causes like urea or bilirubin raise so should be investigated. Meanwhile, calamine can be continued along with antihistamines like Cetirizine or Loratadine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
