How Can Allergic Reaction To Cefuroxime Axetil Be Treated?
i was given cefuroxime axetil 500mg today for a swelling in my face and stripe throat I am allergic to penicillin I have took 2 pills so fare and my face has swelled more is this a allergic reaction to the medicine that I m taking if so what should I do
Swelling on face if increasing can be probably due to the ongoing infection and not due to Cefuroxime axetil...
This is because of the fact that Penicillin is a different group of antibiotic while Cefuroxime axetil belong to Cephalosporin group of antibiotic..
But if you have any more symptoms of allergy like rashes, itching, swollen tongue, breathing difficulty, choking etc, immediately stop taking the antibiotic..
However if the swelling continue to increase then also immediately consult an Emergency room and get evaluated..
A blood test can be done to check for allergies as well as the nature of infection so that appropriate antibiotics can be advised..
As you doubt an allergic reaction to be on a safer side take anti allergic like Allegra, Benadryl..
Consult your Physician for further investigation..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
