How Can Allergic Skin Reaction On The Face Be Treated?

my 5 year old grandson was prescribed a eye drop for allergies and my daughter called tonight to say his face must be having some kind of reaction to them, I m thinking. The pediatrician prescribed this wed night 2 times a day. He has not been to an allergist,my recommendation. I told her to stop giving him the drops until she calls his doctor. Should she get bendryl for him in the meantime?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
-Avoid allowing the reaction-causing substance to touch your skin.
-Apply an anti-itch cream or calamine lotion to the affected area.
-anti-itch drug such as an oral antihistamine, diphenhydramine (Benadryl, others), may be helpful if your itching is severe.
-Apply cool, wet compresses.
-Avoid scratching.
-Cool bath can help. Sprinkle the water with baking soda or an oatmeal-based bath product (Aveeno, others).
-Wear smooth-textured cotton clothing. This helps avoid irritation.
-Choose mild soaps without dyes or perfumes. -Rinse completely, pat your skin dry and apply moisturizer.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
