Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My niece has angiodema/swollen lip. We have tried to narrow it down as to what would cause this reaction. She is on lisinipril. Went to an urgent care facility today. Given angiodemas diagnosis. Prescribed methylprednisolone (4mg) and told to take benadryl and pepcid. Her lip has tripled and that was 3 hours ago. What's next? Emergency Room?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems like allergic reaction to something causing allergic Angioedema and recurring swelling seems to be caused due to it..
It can be due to a number of common things like foods or medicine, animal danders, pollen, poison ivy, sea food or even other things.. As the swelling has tripled it is alarming needs immediate medical attention.. You can be given steroid injection along with anti-allergics to reduce swelling and do cool compresses over the lips.
If there are recurring episodes consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can do allergic testing like RAST TEST, food challenge test etc to rule out the exact cause of allergic reaction and also advise you to prevent exposure to allergen as well as give you Immunotherapy for reducing the severity of allergy symptoms..
Hope this information helps.
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
