I was talking to my friend whos daughter has it. at 5 & I/2 her hair started falling out, by jr highmost of it was gone & some came back, now 1 half her hair came back on only one size. is this normal? I will wait for my answer. thanks a lot.Louise
It is an autoimmune disorder, in which the immune system attacks hair follicles, is believed to cause alopecia areata. It is not contagious. But it is most commonly affect the age of 30 to 60 years. Also, check for fungal infection of the scalp or stress-induced hair loss.
There is no known effective method of prevention, although the elimination of emotional stress is felt to be helpful. A local steroid injection may helpful. No drugs or hair-care products have been associated with the onset of alopecia areata.
Although not precisely a treatment, the cosmetic camouflage of alopecia areata is certainly an important consideration in patient management. Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
