How Can An Abscess On The Arm Be Treated?

I had an abscess in arm from 1st and obviously last IV drug use. . Got huge. Went to er; lanced; and he never flushed with saline... It s been 48hrs. On 1600mgs total of two antibiotics. Was still hard when he was done. But now it s kind of bruised and not nearly as in pain as I was before the lancing but still pretty sore. What should I expect or is everything healing right?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Consult a general surgeon and evaluated.

It has to be drained to prevent complications.

Nothing much to worry as it can be done under local anesthesia.

A short course of antibiotics also required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
