Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can An Accidental Insertion Of Baby Paracetamol In A Baby S Vagina Affect The Baby?
Accidently put baby paracetamol suppository ( panadol) in baby s vagina. Fed baby, changed her 10-15 mins after incorrect insertion and undesolved but soft and empty capsule was outside vagina. Changed her, fed her again now she s asleep. I m very anxious about what effects this may have.
1. What was the suppository dosage? 2. What is baby weight? 3. Is baby allergic to paracetamol? 4. Did baby have fever?
In my opinion you need not worry if baby is feeding well and is not irritable more than usual. Vagina is lined with mucous membrane similar to rectum, where when suppository is placed drug is absorbed.
If baby cries excessively or there is severe local redness or irritation consult your doctor for further management.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Thank you, Dr. Narasimha G L
