How Can An Ankle Sprain And Gout Be Treated?

i WAS RECENTLY TREATED IN THE E.R. WITH rice THERAPY AND HYDROCODONE FOR A SPRAINED ANKLE, WHICH LATER PROVED TO BE GOUT. mY PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN PRESCRIBED ULORIC, 80 MG TABS ONCE A DAY FOR 30 DAYS. i AM SEEING SOMEWHERE HERE THAT REST, ELEVATION AND ICE CAN HELP, BUT NO MENTION OF COMPRESSION. WOULD COMPRESSION HELP OR HURT? I CANNOT TAKE NSAIDS BECAUSE OF DAMAGE TO MY KIDNEYS.

Hello,

Brief answer: Yes compression would help in sprained ankle not in gout.

Explanation: My opinion is that sprained ankle is a mechanical trauma which can be managed with analgesia like NSAIDS or paracetamol, etc., rest of ankle and compression with good quality compression bandage for foot. In gout, I suggest my patients the following: healthy diet with less beans and red meat, analgesics, and uloric may be increased to 120 mg and follow-up uric acid level in blood after 1 month.

Conclusion: I suggest you take Paracetamol with hydrocodone and follow-up uric level after 1 month of treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahmmad Gamal
