How Can An Enlarged Lymph Node In The Throat Be Treated?
About 3 weeks ago I had strep throat also my right lymph node was enlarged. Took a course of penicillin felt better, now today my right gland is swollen and sore. Went in to the doctors she gave me Keflex but she wants me to see a general surgeon for my swollen gland. I guess my question would be what is a general surgeon going to do.
As per your query, you have symptoms of enlarged lymph node in the throat which is probably due to swollen salivary gland and due to bacterial infection.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to drink plenty of water. Avoid pricking area with any sharp object. Do warm saline gargles and avoid outside food and cold beverages. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined.
The doctor may prescribe X-ray, CT scan to confirm diagnosis and start treatment accordingly. The doctor may also prescribe antibiotics like amoxicillin or penicillin along with anti-inflammatory at least for 10 days.
Give warm compresses to that area and you can take over the counter medicine like Ibuprofen to reduce pain and swelling.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
