Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
had a corneal abrasion last night. been treating with tobramycin - BUT seem now to have an infection with matter collecting in the lashes + a great deal of redness & some discomfort. What drops or ointment will treat an infection or do I need a culture to determine that? It is a holiday weekend so . . . .
Corneal abrasion usually heals with 48 hours and infection can be controlled with antibiotic drops. However, matting of eye lashes and collection in eyes suggest conjunctival infection.
I suggest you to consult your ophthalmologist at the earliest. Conjunctivitis can be due to infection or may be due to allergy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri,
Pathologist and Microbiologist
