How Can An Infected Ear Piercing Be Treated?

I got my second ear lobe piercings done about 4 months ago. It's been taking a while for them to heal. Today I was changing and my ear got caught on my clothing and I pulled pretty hard. Now, its pussing clear liquid and is kind of throbbing and feels swollen and hot. Is it infected? I try to clean them regularly.

Hello,

Infection of the ear piercing can be due to wearing ear rings made of metals that are not inert in nature.

Such metals decompose when exposed to air, water and can release decomposition products that can cause allergic reaction and infection.

Some individuals with sensitive skin tend to get the reaction faster and can cause irritation, pain and fussing.

So, first of all she should not wear earrings till the infection gets healed. Clean the ear piercing site with betadine solution and apply antiseptic ointment over it. Do cool compresses.

Once it heals, she should wear earrings made of inert material like gold or plastic.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
