How Can An Infected Ingrown Hair Follicle Be Treated?
I had an ingrown hair in my axillary region this morning. There was white puss present. Then I noticed directly underneath that spot was a pea-sized lump. It has been present and quite tender all day. Should I be concerned about a lymph node (breast cancer), or could this simply be infected because of the ingrown hair?
Ingrown hair is a condition in which hair curls back towards the skin and grown instead of growing upright..
It can cause inflammation and infection of the skin leading to a painful bump. There can be pus formation due to infection..
In your case also it looks like ingrown hair or an infected hair follicle but not lymph node.. Axillary lymph nodes are deep enough and not that easily palpable until there is gross swelling..
So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room and get evaluated.. They can advise you a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkiller like Advil, Aleve etc. Topical application of antiseptic ointment can help in providing relief.. Along with it warm compresses can help in draining off the pus faster.. t times a small incision can be placed to drain of the pus and the ingrown hair is removed for faster recovery..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
