Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My eight year old grandson has an infection on the Tragus part of the external ear. He was starting with cellulitis and put on oral antibiotics. It got worse and an ENT specialist made a cut for drainage. The tragus is now very red and starting to crust. is it getting better or worse? Does he need an I VE antibiotics? Should a culture be taken as to if it is bacteria or virus? Impetigo was mentioned not confirmed.
Due to your description, it seems to me the situation is getting better. In my opinion, taking a culture will help in this case to take the best antibiotic and as long as needed. Taking iv antibiotic I don't think is a necessity, the even oral antibiotic can help but you should take them for 10-14 days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Elona Dashi
