I am a super healthy 64 yr old male with a inguinal hernia that really doesnt hurt but is starting to protrude. I am wearing a brace which gently pushes in on both sides. Does doing oblique and ab exercises help it heal by strengthening the ab wall? A friend had the mesh non- lapro surgery 3 yrs ago and it wasnt good outcome and his mesh is recalled and he is in a class action suit:( I DONT want to go there....he may need another surgery. gary york fairfax ca YYYY@YYYY I am 5 9 and 165 body weight been super active but must have done something wrong in lifting things. No idea when it happened so why cant i slowly heal it?
Hello, Thanks for the query. Ab exercises and physical exertion actually worsen the hernia. Ab exercises increases the intra abdominal pressure and thus the hernia become more protruded. Surgery is the only treatment and you can opt for laparoscopic or open procedure according to your financial status. Laparoscopic repair is the preferred procedure and results are good ( your friends’ case may be an exception). Consult a general surgeon and get evaluated. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
