How Can An Injured Middle Finger Be Treated?

I injured my middle finger, left hand, dropped a heavy log on it. Stayed outside in sub 20 degree weather afterwards for some time until hands were numb. Nail turned blue and today the finger is far more painful than previous similar finger smash events. Could exposure to potential frostbite conditions after such an injury result in some type of additional internal damage that is causing this unusually high level of pain?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is possible that due to the injury you sustained, it could have caused a fracture of the bones of the finger. It is important that you get an x-ray done to diagnose any fracture. Frostbite causing the pain is a much lesser possibility. Please do not strain your injured hand, as it can aggravate the injury, till an x-ray has been done and you have consulted an orthopedic surgeon, who can then diagnose the condition and advise on the proper management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma
