How Can An Insect Bite Be Treated?

2 days ago I got bit by some insect but I don t know what. The spot was itchy and slightly red. Later that night I felt a very small stinger sticking out of the spot. I was able to remove it and then washed the site and applied OTC antibiotic cream. I started taking Benadryl, too. (25mg) Today the area is red and larger and still very itchy. Should i keep taking Benadryl or is there something else I should so? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Sting should have been removed immediately after the insect bite. Sting is usually the source of source of antigen or infection which causes wound. it's better to get regular dressings and take a course of antibiotic.
Benadryl may help to control itching but there are better medications. Visit the physician for further treatment.
