Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Over the weekend I was walking through the brush and felt an intense poke, like a thorn jabbing me in the thigh. I never saw a spider or bee but the site grew to about 8 inches in diameter as a light flushed red with a center circle darker red and hard that is about 2 inches in diameter... I m not sure if I should seek antibiotics as there is no drainage. I have been putting a baking soda paste and an olive oil/turmeric paste. Also took an antihistamine... Should I be doing something else
It looks like an insect or bee sting or can also be poison ivy if you are injured by any thorn. It is a localized allergic reaction, so do not worry about it.
You can apply a combination of steroid and antibiotic ointment like Betnovate N. Do cool compresses over it. Also, you can take a course of antibiotics if there is infection and it starts progressing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
